Sunday, 2/24: Well-blessing at Compasssion Meditation Center

with the special guests of the Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery from Mundgod, Indian. This day also will bethe demolishing date of the sand mandala to pray for well being for the community and peace for the world. Half to this spiritual sand will given to the community to be kept for well-blessing and the other half will be spread in the Pacific Ocean.

This Sangha meets every Thursday night 7:00 - 9:00 pm

6:50 - 7:00:  Greetings and settling in (10 minutes)
7:00 - 7:20:  Sitting meditation I (20 minutes)
7:25 - 7:35:  Walking meditation (10 minutes)
7:35 - 7:50:  Sitting meditation II (15 minutes)                          
7:50 - 8:00:  Break (10 minutes)
8:00 - 8:15:  Guided meditation or Reciting sutras (15 minutes)
8:10 - 9:00:  Dharma talk & discussion (50 minutes)

Closing & Sharing the merit

Our Dharma discussions begin with a short Dharma talk by Ven. Thich Tu-Luc, followed by a question & answer session along with reading and sharing about Buddhist texts and articles. This is also a time to share our practice and discuss issues that arise in daily life so we can help each other learn to apply Buddhist practices in order to resolve problems and lead happier lives.  

Activity Programs

I. Daily Activities:
  • We have two praying sessions per day, one in the morning and one at night. If you would like to have praying ceremonies for the living, or for the dead, please contact our office.

II. Weekly Activites:

  • Mondays - Fridays; 6-7:15 am: Meditation, Shurangama Sutra Recitation, and Repentance.
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays: There are classes to teach the Dharma specialized for the Sangha, and the Buddhist Practitioners. The course goal is to increase ones knowledge in Buddhism. Occasionally, we have professional sessions, such as high-tech, philosophy, education, charity activities and lecturing techniques.
  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;  7-8 pm:  We have chanting ceremonies to recite various Sutras, such as the Lotus Sutra, the Earth Store Boddhisatva Sutra, the Confession Sutra and the Medicine Buddha Sutra.
  • Thursdays; 7-9 pm:  We host sessions of our Fourfold Community Sangha (monks, nuns, lay men, and lay women) for English-speaking friends. The session includes sitting & walking meditation, reciting sutras, and Dharma talk & discussion.
  • Fridays; 8-9 pm:  There is a Dharma talk in Vietnamese for the Buddhist laymen and youth. This session includes topics that apply Buddhism in the daily living of mindfulness.
  • Sundays; 9:30 - 10:30 am: Dharma Lecture by the Venerable Abbot
  • Sundays; 1-5 pm:  There are activity sessions for the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association that is named "The Right Mind". These sessions include Dharma talks, Vietnamese lessons, and activities that are focused on youth education.

III. Monthly Weekly Activites:

  • Buddhist Youth Practice Day: On a selected Sunday of each month, there is a Buddhist Practice day that is dedicated to the Family Buddhist Youth Association "The Right Mind" and their leaders.
  • Monthly Mindfulness Day; 9 am- 3 pm: On a selected Saturday of each month. This session is dedicated to Buddhists who want to practice meditation to calm their mind and body. Practices include appreciation-bowing ceremonies, sitting and walking meditation, Dharma lectures and reviewing the Five Precepts.

IV. Annually Weekly Activites:

  • Summer Retreat; July 1-5: This five-day program is  an opportunity for  Buddhists to learn about the monastic way of life, to participate in monastic practice for a few days and, for those who are interested, to explore the possibility of becoming a monk or nun. It is also a great way to deepen individual practice with the support of the Sangha. There is a children's program as well. There is no fee for this retreat, but donations are welcome.
  • The Bodhisattva Quan Am (Avalokita) Assembly; 3 times a year: This ceremony honors the Boddhisatva Quan Am. It is a mindful practice to deepen  compassion through bowing to the Bodhisattva Quan Am and chanting the Great Compassion Mantra. We believe that our prayers for a peaceful world and happy, safe families will be anwered through the connection with the miracle of the Bodhisattva Quan Am's deep listening and great compassion.
  • We also have other activities, such as visiting pagodas, discussion sessions, and Dharma talks. Please contact our office for more information.
